A simpler first step towards Hajj
I designed a digital Hajj registration experience for the Kurdistan Region, bringing applications, guidance, and results into one place. The project connects a multilingual public portal with a dashboard supporting more than six roles, alongside a custom logo, illustration, and mobile experience.

My Role
UIUX designer
As the UI/UX designer, my role centered on understanding the project flow and Business Requirements Document (BRD) to design an intuitive registration portal and dashboard.
The work included mapping the complete user journey for citizens applying for Hajj, ensuring all application scenarios were seamless. The portal was then integrated with the administrative dashboard, connecting each stage from submission to review and approval.
Close collaboration with the development team ensured clear communication of design specifications, continuous refinement of the interface, and smooth deployment. A key milestone was the design of the lottery process for Hajj allocation, overseen by the General Director.
Additionally, I created a sleek, elegant logo to represent the system.
The challenge
Moving a paperwork-heavy process online
Hajj registration involved paperwork, office visits, and coordination between multiple teams. The challenge was to make this process easier for citizens while giving government employees a clear, connected way to manage applications.
Homepage design
Helping people know where to begin
I organised the homepage around the questions applicants need answered first: how registration works, which application type to choose, and what happens next. Clear sections bring instructions and frequently asked questions together, helping people prepare before starting their application.

Application types
Different applicants, clear starting points
The portal serves several applicant groups, each with different requirements. I designed distinct cards with short explanations and visual cues, helping citizens, companies, and accompanying professionals identify the right application path.

Registration journey
Making each step easier to follow
I designed the registration experience around entering information, reviewing details, and submitting an application. Applicants can return using their mobile number to view their application status, keeping the process connected beyond the initial submission.

Logo design
An identity rooted in the journey
I designed the portal’s logo around the recognisable form of the Kaaba, creating a direct connection to Hajj. The simple shape and black-and-gold palette give the service a distinct identity that carries through the wider interface.

Custom illustration
Bringing the meaning of Hajj into the design
I created a custom Kaaba illustration as the focal point of the homepage. Its familiar form connects the digital experience to the pilgrimage, while the surrounding architectural silhouettes add context and depth.

Languages and appearance
Three languages, two modes, one consistent experience
I designed the portal in Kurdish, Arabic, and English, with support for both right-to-left and left-to-right layouts. Light and dark modes bring the same attention to readability, contrast, and visual consistency, keeping the experience familiar across languages and preferences

Dashboard design
More than six roles, one connected workflow
I designed a dashboard connecting auditors, cashiers, the general director, the director of Hajj, and dedicated deferral and cancellation auditors. Each role has a focused workspace for its responsibilities, from reviewing applications and handling payments to managing lottery draws, deferrals, and cancellations.

Mobile experience
Bringing registration closer to people
I adapted the portal for mobile so people could access the service from their phones. The layouts bring forms, guidance, and application information into a smaller screen, with attention to readable content, clear actions, and navigation across languages.

Impact
Supporting 80,510 applications
The portal recorded 80,510 applications, bringing Hajj registration online at scale. The project brought together public-facing guidance and internal application management, supporting both the people applying and the teams working behind the scenes.
Design reflection
Designing both sides of a public service
This project challenged me to consider the needs of citizens and government teams together. From the logo and illustration to multilingual layouts and connected dashboard roles, every part contributed to making a complex service easier to navigate.
